I have been thinking a lot about what the word“Church” really means. When I look at Webster’s dictionary it says, “a building for public andespecially Christian worship.” In another place it says, “the clerical profession, considered the church as a possible career”. If that is the church then we aremissing the boat. The church, as the children’s saying goes, “Is not a building, not a steeple.” So then, what is the Church? “It’s the people.” It is you and I and all anywhere to believe that “we are saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ”
Now, it is true that we often say, “Let’s go to Church,” or “What Church should we attend?” What most of us really mean by that is “Let’s go to worship.” Yet, to me the Church is a feeding placeand a gathering place. We come to be in fellowship with other believers and seekers. We come to be encouraged or even at times, convicted. But the Church is you and I. The real church happens beyond Sunday morning. The Church is feeding the hungry, clothing those who lack, helping those in a tough place. Church happens in the mall, in the grocery store and wherever we are. Come Sunday to be fedthen let’s “Go ye into all the world,” and our little corner of the world. See you Sunday and bring a friend to worship.
